Oxyfuel Cutting

Oxyfuel Cutting Services

CMDI offers oxyfuel cutting services for thick carbon steel plates using a thermal flame cutting process that is ideal for heavy-duty applications. This method is well-suited for cutting steel between 1/4" and 12" thick, particularly in structural fabrication, equipment manufacturing, and other industries requiring durable, cost-effective results.

Based in Ivanhoe, Virginia, we work with manufacturers, fabricators, and machine shops across the Appalachian region, delivering quick turnarounds and consistent results across industrial applications.

What Is Oxyfuel Cutting?

Oxyfuel cutting (also called oxyacetylene cutting or flame cutting) is a thermal metal cutting process that uses pure oxygen combined with a fuel gas (typically acetylene) to preheat and chemically oxidize steel. The process allows material to be cut away cleanly and efficiently, particularly in thicker plate applications.

Oxyfuel is known for its ability to:

  • Handle thicker materials than plasma cutting

  • Operate with a lower equipment investment

  • Create clean straight cuts or bevels in carbon steel

When to Use Oxyfuel for Metal Cutting

CMDI recommends oxyfuel cutting when your project involves:

  • Steel plates between 1/4" and 12" thick
  • Carbon steel materials only
  • Straight-line or bevel cuts
  • Budget-conscious or high-volume production needs
  • Jobs where speed matter

From equipment bases to structural weldments, this cutting process is built for performance and precsion in tough industrial settings.
